Book Report 2

His name is Will, a "normal" kid going through puberty. Avaerage hight, brown hair, thin, somewhat strong. Will is an aveage teenage boy with an amazing secret. Will moved to Alaska during the summer. The day that their moving in he goes on a bike ride. As he is riding he looks over into a lake and sees an island in the middle of it. Just after a patch of trees blocks his sight he stops to turn around. Once he is on the island he sees a heron. When will looked at the heron he found peace with the island and the sounds of it. That island changed Will. It made will more mature, more at ease of moving, and happier. Will met susan when he was riding his bike back home. When they started talking Will was shy so susan did most of the talking. Every time Will was with her he became less and less shy, and more. and more "talkative".
Will is a progressive charactor. He is sort of "out of it" in the begining but he becomes better at those things thoughout the book. Like how he is a obsevant. In the begining he wasn't as observant with nature as he was at the end. Part of that though might be because he didn't connect with nature as much as after he was on the island. Like when he first saw the heron. Will could help but sit and look at it. He drew a sketch of it after stareing at it for hours. First seeing it eat a frog Will became atracted to it. Watching its every move. Trying to draw every curve of its body just right. perfection was the only option. Will didn't just want to see it though. he wanted to understand the heron and how it lived. Will wanted to "be" the heron.
Will is also is a person that wants to learn. Will doesn't want to just be taught it but he wants to learn what he is doing on the island. If you learn something you understand it more and you do it for yourself not just to get it done. Will in the book is trying to learn why he is on the island so that he can understand instead of just going there and visit for a day. He wants to learn by camping there and suviving. Will is trying to understand the island the the wilderness around it. Will sleeps there to get a real understanding of what its like on the island.

3)If the point of view was from someone else or third person the book would be a lot different. Will's point of view lets you understand so much more about him. One of the main reasons is because he doesn't talk a lot in the book, Will mainly thinks about things. He thinks so that its quiet on the island(where he is for most of the book). The book would almost not make sence if it wasn't in will's point of view because will's thoughts tie the book together with why he stares at the heron. Will's thoughts also help you understand his writing and painting. From the reaso for the color to the way he writes. In the middle of the book will writes about his grandmother and relizes that he is trying to explain her when he really wants to describe her. Then he remembers the smallest things about her that he forgot like how she always had a loose hair fall on her face and her hand put it back.
If the book were to be from Susan's point of view it would have been a very different book. The reader wouldn't understand Will as much. Will would have a different efact on the story. He would be more the person that changes Susans life. Instead of the person who gets thier life changed by the island and by susan.
If the book would have been in third person the book would have been different also because most of Will's contributions are his thinking. The story could be writen in the view and still make some sence but the reader gets a better understanding of the book in first person. Like when he is on the island and is thinking and observing things. Will thinks to himself about why he is doing what he is doing and what he is doing. In third person though Will would just be sitting looking at a heron and drawing a picture even there is so much more to it. Will was tring to understand the heron not just see it.
So ultimately the book would be a lot different in a different view. It would not make as much sence and not have as much understanding of what Will is going through.

Chioce Book Report

HOOT
The main character in Hoot is Roy, and Roy is nervous because he just moved to south Florida. Roy is not exactly scrawny but he is not big either. The author did not describe Roy that much so to me Roy had light brown hair that was rough not smooth. He had blue eyes, and he has a bony face. Roy is also shy but will stand up for himself if he has to. Roy is a very good biker because he used to live in Montana where he would mountain bike. Roy seems to be a well raised child. He thinks about everything he does before he does it. I also think that Roy is a very determined person like in the book when he found out that the owls were going to die if he did not do something. Roy set a goal the he will not that he would just try but he would succeed in saving the owls. That is what makes Roy different from some of the other characters. Another thing that makes him different is that he uses his brain to get there. Roy uses his brain by finding legal ways to save the owls so that Mother Paula's pancake house could not build there without government permission. Roy also is a brave person like in the book when he punched the school bully(Dana Matherson) in the face and broke his nose. Roy did more than that though he next went to Dana's house and gave him an apology letter saying that he would not do any more harm to Dana if Dana left him alone. Roy then was suspended from the bus for two weeks. Since he was good and his parents talked to the principle he was able to be allowed on the bus early. Which is what Roy did not want. During school that day Dana had decided to snatch Roy after school before he could get on the bus. Roy's friend heard some rumors of that so he was very careful. Unfortunately he was not careful enough. Dana ended up getting him and hiding in a closet. Luckily for Roy, Beatrice Leep saved him by pulling Dana out of the closet and getting rid of him. Beatrice got rid of him though by striping him down to his underwear and hanging him to the school flag pole.

Roy has a very large conflict with Mother Paula's Pancake house, and he has a large conflict with Dana Matherson. The conflict with Dana Matherson was the almost average Bully in middle school situation. For Roy though, he did not tolerate being bullied. So he stood up to him. The bad part for him though was that he was the new kid so no one thought that he would live. Roy's bigger conflict though was with Mother Paula's Pancake house. Roy Found this conflict in a very awkward way though being the new kid at Trace Middle. He found out that Mother Paula's was going to bury owls. It started on the first day of school when he was on his way to school on the bus. Roy was being pressed against the window by Dana when he saw a running boy with charcoal black feet and a basketball jersey. Roy wanted to know more about him so he looked every day for him. and he did not see him again for three weeks. Once he saw him again he decided to follow him and Dana almost made him miss the chance but at the last second he punched Dana in the face to get away. Once he found out more about the boy he found out that the boy knew that burrowing owls were living on the Mother Paula's property. He also learned that is the Mother Paula's Pancake house was built then the owls would get buried and die. So Roy did every thing he could to stop Mother Paula's from making their pancake house on that lot. Dana was not an easy problem either. Dana is a dumb brute with the thinking capacity of a three year old. Almost the only thing that Dana did know what to do was how not to get caught. So Roy out smarted him.Roy found out Dana's weakness, cigarettes. Roy told Dana that there was a pack of cigarettes on the Mother Paula's property. The foreman caught him trespassing and tried to get him but tripped in an owl hole. luckily Officer Dilinko was across the street and got the boy. For the final result Roy tried everything he could. On the last day he pulled it off some how. He found out that in the state of Florida the owls were protected. Roy stopped the rally and Mother Paula's could not build there anymore.

Memoir 2

Lying in bed hardly sleeping i couldn't wait for what was going to happen next. we had to wake up at 2 am on a Sunday during spring break. i was in for a surprise of a long car ride before a week of pure fun. I was going to Colorado for spring break. except on that Wednesday we were going down and i didn't see a 5 foot drop. all of a sudden a person came out of no where and i tried to turn out of the way. Then i went of the drop and my snowboard stuck in the snow and i started spinning faster and faster seeing darkness then light. and all of a sudden my knee felt like it snapped off with splintering pain i was lying on the ground. It took me about 5 minutes to get up but it felt like hours. Every second gave me more and more pain. Until I maned up and started going down the hill again.

The next day we didn't go out so that we  could rest for a day. instead we walked around stores looking for souvenirs. i didn't find any that i wanted to buy. but there are some interesting things that we saw like a giant coca-cola bear. we got some pictures with it.

unfortunately  we reached are last day. and we had to pack up for a long car ride ahead. it took another day another boring day in the car after a week of fun. if i could do it again i would just for the car ride.

Memoir.

"Hey! move out of the way." i said to my sister.

"Why?" she asked.

"I'm going to drive the van."

"Fine."

Those were the only word i remember before it happened. It was a beautiful day outside. In my two year old mind I was thirty. So i decided to drive my mom and dad's van.

Feeling very proud of myself  i got into the front seat on the drivers side and started turning the wheel. then i pulled the lever to put it in nutral, i started rolling backwand still playing with the wheel. Thats all i remember but my mom tells me that i crashed into our white car and totaled it.

One thing i didnt tell my parents was that the next thing i remember is thinking about doing it again, but i didn't. When i think about it right now if i had the choice again it might be different.
